Santa Clara · C-20 HVAC contractor

Cool in August. Warm in January. One crew for both.

Repairs, replacements and tune-ups between El Camino and the 101, booked by phone and done by our own technicians.

The Northwind comfort guarantee: if a repair doesn't hold for a full year, we come back and make it right at no charge.

What we do

Heating, cooling and airflow.

No subcontracted installs, no commission-only "comfort advisors". The technician who diagnoses your system is the one who fixes it.

AC repair & installation

Capacitors, contactors, refrigerant leaks, frozen coils. When it's time to replace, a Manual J load calculation first, then a right-sized system, not the biggest one on the truck.

Repair and installation visits by arrangement

Furnaces

Gas furnace repair, safety inspection and replacement. Every visit includes a carbon-monoxide reading at the registers and a look at the heat exchanger.

Tune-up 60–90 min · replacement in one day

Heat pumps

One outdoor unit that cools in summer and heats in winter. Ducted or ductless mini-split. We file the Silicon Valley Power and TECH Clean California rebate forms for you.

Rebate paperwork included

Ductwork

Leaky, crushed or undersized ducts waste a third of what your system makes. We pressure-test, seal with mastic, and replace runs that can't be saved. Then we HERS-test the result.

Most attics done in 1–2 days

Indoor air quality

MERV 13 media filters, whole-house fresh-air ventilation and humidity control. These are the fixes that actually help on wildfire-smoke days, not plug-in gadgets.

What the neighbors say.

"Called at 7:40 on the first 100-degree day. Tech was in our driveway at 9:15 and the AC was running by ten."

Hannah L. · Rivermark

"They talked me out of a new furnace. It was a flame sensor. I didn't know HVAC companies did that."

Jorge & Mei T. · Old Quad

"The heat pump rebate forms were done before I'd even asked. The house is quiet now. The old unit used to shake the fence."

Priya S. · Westwood Oaks

Questions we're asked a lot

Before you call.

How much does a new AC or heat pump cost?

It depends on the size of the house, the state of the ducts, the electrical panel and which rebates you qualify for, so we don't quote from a form. A technician measures the house, runs the load calculation and gives you a written fixed price with the permit and HERS test included.

Should I repair or replace?

Our rule of thumb: if the system is under twelve years old and the repair is a single part, repair it. If it's older and the compressor or heat exchanger has failed, replacing usually makes more sense. We'll show you both numbers on the same visit and let you choose.

Do heat pumps actually work in Santa Clara winters?

Yes. Our January nights rarely drop below the high 30s, and modern inverter heat pumps hold full output well below that. Most of the heat pumps we install replace a gas furnace and an AC at once, and the owners stop noticing the difference within a week.

Do you pull permits?

Every replacement, yes. We pull them with the City of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale or wherever the house is. California also requires a third-party HERS duct test on most changeouts; we schedule it and pass it before we call the job done.

What counts as an emergency?

If your system has stopped heating or cooling, call to describe the problem and check availability. If you smell gas, leave the building and contact your gas utility or emergency services from outside.
