FAQ
Twelve straight answers.
Emergencies, choosing a system, service plans and working with us. No prices here; those follow a site walk.
Emergencies
What counts as an emergency?
No cooling above 90°F outside, no heat below 45°F, a gas smell, water from the air handler, or a unit making a new loud noise. All get the two-hour response.
What should I do while I wait?
Turn the system off at the thermostat. If there is water, switch the breaker off too. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the utility first, then us.
Do you charge more at night?
An after-hours call has a different dispatch fee, stated when you call. Nothing is quoted on this site.
Choosing a system
How do you size a system?
A Manual J load calculation on the day, room by room, plus a duct test. Not square footage times a rule of thumb. The planner on the home page is only the first pass.
Do you install every brand?
We install the two brands we can get parts for in a day and whose inverters we have trained on. We will say which, and why, on the site walk.
How long does a replacement take from first call?
Site walk within three days; scope the same day; permit and incentive reservation inside a week; install the following week; HERS test and final a few days after.
What is a HERS test?
A third-party rater measures duct leakage and airflow after the install. California requires it on most duct and AC work. We book it and attend it.
Service and plans
How often should a system be serviced?
Twice a year for a system that heats and cools. Manufacturers require it to keep the parts warranty.
Do you do the filter changes?
Plan members get filters delivered on schedule and changed at each visit. Everyone else gets a reminder on the thermostat.
Can I cancel a plan?
Any time, in writing. Nothing rolls over without a reminder first.
Working with us
Who does the work?
Our own team of eight, from the technicians to the installers. No subcontracted install crews.
What does the invoice show?
The readings: charge, static pressure, combustion where it applies, model and serial numbers, and the warranty terms.
