Tank or tankless:
what we actually say
Not the brochure answer. Who should go tankless, who shouldn't, and the three questions we ask before recommending either.
We install both every week. Here's the honest split.
Go tankless if
- You run out of hot water with two showers going.
- You want the garage corner or closet back.
- Your gas meter and line can feed it, or you're open to upsizing the line.
- You plan to stay ten years or more.
Stay with a tank if
- Your household is one or two people with normal use.
- The heater is in a closet with no path for a new vent.
- You want the simplest, fastest replacement. A tank is a half-day.
The three questions
- How many showers can run at once today, and how many should?
- Where's the gas meter and what size is the line to the heater?
- Where will the vent go, and where does condensate drain?
Send us a photo of your current heater's label and we'll tell you what fits before anyone drives over.
