Rewiring
How we do it.
Sunnyvale has three kinds of old wiring: knob-and-tube in the pre-war houses near the Heritage District, aluminum branch circuits in late-60s tracts, and the slab-and-conduit Eichlers where every run is in the ceiling. Each one is a different job. We have done all three, a lot.
How we work
- Room by room. You keep living in the house. One or two rooms open at a time, power kept on everywhere else.
- Fish first, cut second. Most runs go through the attic and crawlspace. We open drywall only where we must, and we patch and texture what we open.
- Copper, AFCI, labeled. 12 AWG on 20 A kitchen and bath circuits, 14 AWG on lighting, arc-fault protection where the code asks, every circuit named at the panel.
Aluminum without a full rewire
Where a full rewire is not warranted, we repair aluminum branch circuits with COPALUM or AlumiConn connectors at every device, a method insurers accept. We tell you which case you are in on the walk.
