Start with the right questions.
Take cabinet, counter and tile samples home. Look at them in the morning and evening. Test the practical questions too: texture, cleaning, edges and how materials meet.
Put the details in the plan.
Carry one calm material through adjoining spaces. Ask for a small junction mockup where the design depends on a particular edge or alignment.
Bring it to the site walk.
Bring photographs, a list of what is not working today and any constraints on access or timing. The aim of the first visit is to turn those observations into a scope you can understand.
